Privacy policy

This policy explains what Lantern Saga (“we”), the controller of your data on Lantern Saga, collects and why. Contact: hello@lanternsaga.com.

What we collect

• Your account: name, email address, a hash of your password (never the password), and your Google account id if you sign in with Google.
• What you play: characters, saves, endings found, settings.
• What you write: the stories you tell the forge, your answers to its questions, the quests it writes, and reports you send about quests.
• Your plan: which plan you hold and its status, as our payment partner reports it. We never receive card numbers.
• Usage: pages you visit and what you click, with a random id kept in your browser (see Analytics), and our server logs, which include IP addresses and are kept for a short time for security.

Why

• To run your account and the quests you play and write (our contract with you).
• To take payments and keep plans in line with what you paid (contract, legal obligations).
• To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and improve it (our legitimate interests).
• To send you emails about your account: confirming your address, password resets, receipts, and "your quest is ready". We do not send marketing without your consent.

Who we share it with

• Polar Software, Inc., our merchant of record, which sells the plans and handles payment details under its own privacy policy.
• Anthropic, PBC, which provides the AI model the forge writes with. The story you submit and the quest drafts are sent to Anthropic's API to write your quest. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent through its API is not used to train its models.
• PostHog, our product analytics provider (see Analytics).
• Our email delivery provider, our hosting provider, and Google if you choose to sign in with Google.

Some of these providers are in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see which pages are read and which buttons are used. It sets no cookies: it keeps a random id in your browser’s local storage, which you can clear at any time. If you are signed in, events carry an internal account number and your plan, never your name or email. We do not use advertising trackers.

Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms, and a small cookie for your display theme. Nothing else.

How long we keep it

• Your account and what you play and write: while your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed within 30 days, including from backups.
• The working files the forge makes while writing: 14 days.
• Payment records: as long as tax law requires (held by Polar).

Your rights

You can see and change your details in your settings, and delete your account there at any time. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or erase it, or to object to how we use it, by writing to hello@lanternsaga.com. You may complain to your data protection authority.

Minors

Lantern Saga is for adults (18 and over), and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, write to hello@lanternsaga.com and we will delete it.
