Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and Lantern Saga, Belgrade (“we”) for using Lantern Saga. By creating an account you accept them. Questions: hello@lanternsaga.com.

1. What Lantern Saga is

Lantern Saga is a library of interactive text quests you play in a web browser, and a tool (“the forge”) with which Storytellers turn a story they tell into a playable quest. Quests written with the forge are created with the help of artificial intelligence (Anthropic’s Claude).

2. Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
• Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
• One account per person. Accounts cannot be sold or transferred.

3. Plans and payment

The free account is free. The Adventurer plan costs $4.99 a month and the Storyteller plan $19.99 a month, billed in advance each month until you cancel. Our reseller and merchant of record, Polar Software, Inc. (polar.sh), sells the plans, charges your card, handles taxes and sends the receipts; its terms apply to the purchase. We never see your card number.

• Prices include taxes where the law requires it. If we change a price, we tell you at least 30 days before it applies to your next renewal.
• Moving up from Adventurer to Storyteller starts at once; the difference for the current month is charged then, pro rata. Moving down applies from your next renewal.
• If a payment fails, Polar retries it for a while; your plan ends if it cannot be collected.

4. Cancelling

Cancel any time from your account page. Your plan keeps working until the end of the month you paid for and is not renewed. See the refund policy for when we give money back.

5. Quests you write (Storytellers)

• Your story stays yours. You keep your rights in the stories you tell and in the quests made from them.
• You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, format, host, display and make your quest available on Lantern Saga to the people you choose: only you, anyone with your share link, or everyone when you publish it to the Storytellers’ library, and to show its title, cover and description in the library and when we tell people about Lantern Saga. The licence ends when you delete the quest, apart from backups kept for a short time.
• You promise that you have the right to the story you submit, that it is not copied from someone else’s work, and that it follows the content rules.
• The forge writes with artificial intelligence. Its writing can contain mistakes or resemble existing work by chance: read and play your quest before you share it, and ask for changes when something is wrong.
• The Storyteller plan includes 3 new quests per billing month. Unused quests do not carry over. A quest the forge cannot finish does not count. Requests for changes are limited per quest.
• We may review published quests, decline to list them, hide or remove them, and suspend accounts that break these terms or the content rules.

6. Acceptable use

• Do not try to make the forge produce content the rules forbid, or use it to produce anything other than quests for this site.
• Do not copy, scrape or redistribute the house quests, and do not try to get around the access checks.
• Do not harass other players, impersonate others, or upload anything unlawful.
• Do not overload, probe or attack the service.

7. Our work

The house quests, the engine, the design and the site are ours or our licensors’. You may play them for your own, non-commercial enjoyment.

8. The service as it is

We work to keep Lantern Saga running and your saves safe, but the service is provided as it is, and we may change, add or retire features. If we close a paid feature, we refund the unused part of the month you paid for.

9. Liability

As far as the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

10. Ending the agreement

You can delete your account at any time in your settings; a renewing plan is cancelled first. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Serbia. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in.

12. Changes

When we change these terms in a way that matters, we tell you by email or on the site before the change takes effect. Using Lantern Saga after that means you accept the new terms.
